Richard Boissonneault is a lifelong resident of Sturgeon County and a proud fifth-generation family farm and business owner. His family farm, established in 1891—before the County or even the Province existed—has given him a deep appreciation for the region’s history, culture, and the importance of long-term planning for future generations.

Richard has been happily married to his wife, Chantal, since 1996 and together they are raising three children: Ivy, Zoe, and Ella As the owner and operator of Boissonneault Farms, including the Strawberry U-Pick, Mentor Group of Companies Ltd., and Bug Order Inc., Richard is a familiar face throughout the community. He is known for his strong work ethic, innovative spirit, and unwavering commitment to helping others succeed in both business and life.

Richard believes in collaboration and building common goals together. As a councillor, he will bring the same dedication and passion he has shown in his businesses, prioritizing practical progress while respecting Sturgeon County’s heritage and values. He understands that change is inevitable, but thoughtful, well-planned progress ensures a stronger community for future generations.

Beyond his business leadership, Richard is passionate about agriculture, horticulture, and community life. He takes pride in raising ponies, growing tiger lilies, and cultivating many other flowers—pursuits that reflect his appreciation for the land and the culture of Sturgeon County.

With decades of leadership experience and a lifetime of connection to the region, Richard Boissonneault will be a true asset to Sturgeon County Council—bringing vision, experience, and a commitment to sustainable success for all.

    Rural Broadband Expansion

    Reliable high-speed internet remains a critical gap in rural Alberta. The Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) identify broadband access as a top priority for rural communities. It’s essential for business resilience, education, telehealth, and overall quality of life  . Sturgeon County voters have repeatedly highlighted the need for better digital infrastructure.

  • Safety & Preparedness

    Safety & Preparedness

    Strengthen regional emergency response frameworks and flood or wildfire mitigation plans with neighboring municipalities.

    Emergency Preparedness & Inter-Municipal Collaboration

    Events like the massive Redwater Recreation area fire underscored the power of regional cooperation in emergencies  . Emphasizing improved preparedness, joint response planning, and tighter coordination with neighbouring municipalities can strengthen Division 4’s resilience.

  • Infrastructure & Traffic

    Push for improved road maintenance and explore options for managing heavy-vehicle routes to improve safety and quality of life.

    In surrounding divisions, traffic and heavy haul routes are recognized concerns  . Division 4 may similarly benefit from a focus on road maintenance, safe traffic flow, and infrastructure improvements that support growth and safety.

    Promote smart land-use planning that protects rural landscapes while accommodating responsible development.

    Growth Management & Rural Character Preservation

    Residents across Sturgeon County express concern about urban development encroaching on rural areas and the importance of preserving open space and rural identity  . Building a platform that balances smart growth with conservation will resonate with many constituents.

    Support investments in safety, recreation, wellness, and local services that enhance residents daily lives.

    While public safety was notably raised in Division 5, rural communities in Division 4 may also appreciate attention to safety-related services—from community policing support to recreational and wellness programs  .
